The 2006 Detroit Tigers season was a remarkable turnaround for the franchise, as they finished the regular season with a record of 95-67, securing the American League Wild Card spot. Led by manager Jim Leyland and standout performances from players like Ivan Rodriguez and Magglio Ordonez, the Tigers made a memorable postseason run. They defeated the New York Yankees in the ALDS and swept the Oakland Athletics in the ALCS to advance to the World Series. However, they ultimately fell to the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series, losing the series 4-1 despite their impressive season.
